Mark Rendell – Profile

Step Change Design - Mark RendellMark runs the growing company, a garden design and horticulture business based in North Wales. Over fifteen years, he has designed gardens and outdoor spaces for residential clients and public and charitable organisations, including the Thrive Secret Garden at their headquarters near Reading.

Mark was inspired to work with health, care and educational organisations to make the most of the benefits in their outdoor spaces and gardens following his studies in the US and their approaches to the role of the grounds around hospitals in aiding recovery and healing. He began the ‘Wards Without Walls’project, and redesigned the gardens and courtyards at Old Coldeast Community Hospital, Havant War Memorial Hospital and Petersfield Community Hospital.

Mark also worked for the NHS as a Senior Health Promotion Specialist and set up his project management and training business after leaving the private sector in 2000, where he was Education and Communities Manager for a media, communications and training company.

A lot of the ideas which were shared are already under way. Such as the re-arrangement of seats to form viewing points and a squirrel obstacle course in the main garden.
